DESL is recognized for its significant contribution in waste management sector. It has the distinctive qualification of providing consulting services for the two most successfully operating waste-to-energy projects in India:

  • 16 MW power plant for Timarpur Okhla Waste Management Co. Ltd., at Okhla, New Delhi. This is the first power project in India operating successfully on a specifically designed hybrid technology
  • 12 MW RDF based power plant at Ghazipur, New Delhi, for M/s IL&FS

Today, DESL is recognized as a reliable consultancy services provider in the 'waste-to-energy segment, and the repeat orders from its clients is a symbol of trust built by it over a period of time. Some of the key awards include:

  • "Distinguished Innovation & Research in Waste Management"under the 'Waste Management Excellence Awards-2017, at the 5th National Conference and Awards. The event was organized by ASSOCHAM in association with MoUD (GoI); MoEFCC (GoI); and Ministry of Science & Technology (GoI).
  • "Distinguished Innovation & Research in Waste Management"award at the 4th National Conference and Awards on Waste to Wealth -2016. The event was organized by ASSOCHAM in association with MoUD (GoI); MNRE (GoI); Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology (GoI).
  • "IEI Industry Excellence Award 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023" under Engineering Services & Consultancy for demonstrating highest order of business excellence. The award was conferred by the Institution of Engineers of India (IEI).

 

The "Standing Committee on Energy" of Lok Sabha (2015-16), in its report on power generation from municipal solid waste in India, have mentioned two of the projects where DESL has offered detailed engineering services. The Committee observed, "Except the Okhla and Ghazipur Plants, all the remaining Waste to Energy Plants, including the Pune Plant, have completely failed to take off."
